The thirteen colonies declared legal separation from Great Britain on July 2, 1776.   The Declaration of Independence had been prepared by the “Committee of Five” lead by Thomas Jefferson.  After much debate and revision the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776.  In a letter from John Adams, one of the signers of the Declaration, to his wife Abigail, he said this day shall be celebrated with parades and jubilation forever more.  Two sizes included.  (29 1/4" x 30 3/4" and runner 29 1/2" x 15 1/2")
